Straight from the ranch house, this well-worn recipe has been handed down for generations and been a Novy family favorite for decades.
These little individual serving-sized loaves will make a BIG impression! They’re perfect with mashed potatoes!
We’ve doubled the original recipe because … well… you’ll understand once you taste them!
- eggs - 2
- Novy Ranches 80/20 Lean Ground Beef (or Ground Sirloin) - 3 pounds
- minced onion - 4 TBSP
- salt - 3 tsp
- pepper - 1/2 tsp
- tomato sauce - 2 8-oz cans
- fresh bread crumbs - 2 cups
- cornstarch - 2 TBSP
- brown sugar - 4 TBSP
- sherry - 1.5 cups
- vinegar - 2 TBSP
- prepared mustard - 2 TBSP
- boullion cubes (or 2 TBSP meat extract paste) - 2
- hot water - 1.5 cups
Slightly beat the eggs. Add beef, onion, salt, pepper, 1 can of tomato sauce and bread crumbs. Combine lightly, but well.
Shape into 8-12 oval loaves, place in shallow baking dish. Bake 40 minutes at 350 F. Pour off juices.
While loaves are baking; In a saucepan, stir cornstarch with brown sugar, the other can of tomato sauce, sherry, vinegar, mustard, bullion cubes and hot water. Cook, stirring until thickened.
Pour sauce over the loaves and bake an additional 30 minutes, basting often.
Makes 8-12 Little Loaves
